Waiting for weather in Cherbourg

15th June in La Turballe (even more)
We managed a glimpse of the Islands of Houat ( Pronounced what) and Hoedic ( which I have christened headache) and we were in thick fog again. Soon the sun came out and after much motoring I was promised a sail. The wind was getting up from 4 knots to 12 knots and we were going to get a better point of sail. It had been on the nose all day. However having hauled out the sails the wind went round and you've guessed, it was back on the nose. The sea was mirror flat most of the time with a metre houle.(Swell) The harbour here is very pretty and really small. Phil called them up and spoke to them and did the whole thing in French for the first time. He was quite surprised at the response 'pas de problem'. The harbour boat came to show us the way in and asked Phil if he could go back. It dawned that he meant reverse onto a hammerhead (The only one). Obviously reversing on to our own berth in Sovereign Harbour stood him in good stead but space was very limited and a big pat on the back from me. They do not take boats over 12 metres because of lack of manoeuvering space (except for Andy and Sara on Limbara!!!!). So we are in a prime spot and not rafted and with big winds and lots of rain forecast may stay till next week. I think I put a jinx on the weather as I saw the beach in glorious sunshine yesterday and said I would spend today sunbathing. Oh Hum. Just shopping and avoiding the rain instead but warmer than it has been. Internet is free but weak so photos later. In fact we are having to use our booster aerial.
